Full Itinerary & Rates
The sulphur city of Rotorua, over 200 km south of Auckland, is known for its geothermal wonders, lakes and authentic Maori Experiences.

On this tour we travel via New Zealand’s famous Thermal Explorer Highway touring route taking in the special region of Rotorua. Our very experienced and knowledgeable local Host-Guides will tell you about New Zealand and its extraordinary places you’ll see along the approximately 3 hour journey to the Sulphur City of Rotorua – one of New Zealand’s ‘hot spots’ and most visited tourism destinations.

On the way to Rotorua, we drive through some truly beautiful countryside and can incorporate a tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set into this tour as an optional extra. As we approach our destination, if time permits, the Mamaku Blueberry Farm is worth a stop. Here we can have a break at the lovely café to see some real Kiwi ingenuity at work on this Blueberry Farm and Winery.

In Rotorua there are many attractions and activities. There is something for everyone from relaxing spa treatments, geothermal parks with bubbling mud pools, shooting geysers, hot springs, bird and wildlife encounters, natural lakes, the Redwood Forest, mountains, active volcanoes to cultural and adventurous experiences such as Maori villages & evening dinner/concerts and white water rafting/zipline and more! As there is so much to choose from, we are happy to work in with your interests to maximise your time in Rotorua suited to your interests and budget.

The many options available include:

  • A visit to one of Rotorua’s Thermal Parks such as Wai-o-Tapu, Waimangu Volcanic Valley or Hells Gate, where you can experience the full might and majesty of this unique and spectacular volcanic landscape.
  • A Helicopter or Floatplane adventure of a lifetime. If your budget allows, we recommend the amazing Helicopter tour from Rotorua via the crater chasm of the legendary Tarawera volcano which lands on White Island, New Zealand's only active marine volcano with spectacular volcanic features, fumaroles and a constantly bubbling crater lake.
  • A cruise to Mokoia Island, the sacred island and bird sanctuary in the middle of Lake Rotorua, where you can walk in the pristine bush, listen to the song of some of our shy native birds (and spot some of the cheeky ones) bathe in the hot pools and hear the story of Rotorua’s legendary lovers, Hinemoa and Tutanekai.
  • The Buried Village, where you can explore the remains of the Maori village that was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886.
  • Skyline Gondolas, which will swing you up to the top of Mount Ngongotaha for a spectacular view and the Luge, which will spin you back down in a thrilling ride.
  • The Polynesian Spa, on the site of one of Rotorua’s historic bath houses in the lovely Government Gardens, is also home to one of the world’s best spas, so here you can steep yourself in luxury and well-being as well as history.
  • Te Puia – the New Zealand Maori Arts & Crafts Institute, where you can watch artists and craftspeople at work, stroll through galleries of exquisite taonga (jewellery, art, carving and weaving) and purchase beautiful individually crafted pieces.
  • Whakarewarewa, a living thermal Maori village that is very interesting to visit.
  • Agrodome, where you can experience all the magic of New Zealand farming, with a fascinating range of agricultural shows and displays, plus thrilling activities such as Zorbing.
